Anwar Hussain Khan, known by his pen name “Shaoor,” was born on April 11, 1943, in Seoni, India, to Ashfaq Hussain Khan. Soon after the creation of Pakistan, his family migrated to Karachi. Initially affiliated with the Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Pakistan and the newspaper “Jahan,” Shaoor later remained associated with the “Sab Rang” digest, focusing on Karachi. Recent years, he contributes a daily column to the newspaper “Jang.” His poetry appears in “Fanon” and other literary magazines.
Shaoor is a prominent poet of modern times. Due to his accessible and straightforward style of poetry, he is often regarded as a poet of simplicity and accessibility. Many of his couplets in colloquial language are widely appreciated. Shaoor is counted among the representatives of modern Urdu poetry, particularly excelling in prose poetry.
